April 27, 2017, Matthew 8 – Jesus TOUCHES a variety of lives, just like he does for us.

We concluded Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, Apr 20, 2017

Prayer and Praise on the Patio. (Apr 6, 2017)

Matthew 6:1-18 (Mar 30, 2017)

Summary of vv. 1-18:  Jesus is challenging us to evaluate our motives when we give, pray, and fast.  Make sure we don’t act like the Pharisees, who do what they do for the praise of men instead of for the praise of God.

Matthew 5:31-48 (Mar 23, 2017)

We looked at how Jesus dealt with the final four misunderstandings the Jewish leaders had concerning the law.

  1. Divorce – God hates divorce (Mal.2:16) because He knows the grief it brings.  Divorce is allowed for unfaithfulness but not required.  Couples are to strive for peace and show mercy in the difficult issues that arise in marriage.
  2. Vows – Stop trying to look for loopholes to get around telling the truth.  Just say yes or no.  Be a person of our word.
  3. Revenge – Show mercy.  Stop trying to get even.  Don’t act naturally.  Act supernaturally.
  4. Love enemies also – Go out of our way to love others as Jesus loves others.  We were His enemies at one time, and yet He loved us.  Set the stage for a witnessing opportunity.

Matthew 5: 17-30 (Mar 16, 2017

Jesus focused on the spirit behind the law.  We may not have committed physical murder, but what have we committed in our heart?  Also, we may not have physically been involved in adultery, but what have we thought about?

We also enjoy birthdays in our Bible studies.

Matthew  5: 1-16 (Mar 9, 2017)

When the eight qualities of a believer that Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount are exhibited in our lives, we become the light and salt that this dark, corrupt world needs.  Then we need to ask ourselves, are we that salt and light so that others will see and want to know more about the Jesus we serve?

Thursday, Oct. 20, began our study of 2 Peter at the Trollies.

August 4, 2016

We studied Psalm 73 last Thursday.  We discovered, like Asaph, that even though it looks like the ungodly are getting away with their lifestyles, they’re not.  “Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end.”

Finished our study of 1 Peter, Oct 6th.
